Who Are You to Be Fabulous? Who Are You Not to Be?

Until the lions have their own historians, the history of the hunt will always glorify the hunter.” Chinua Achebe

This door in Ghana is known as the “Door of No Return.”

I saw it for the first time ten years ago. Until that moment, I hadn’t known the depth of my own ignorance and misinformation. As a woman who taught by the typical American school system, I erroneously and unconsciously adopted the story of victimhood that has been passed down as truth for hundreds of years here in America.

African Americans enjoy a rich and powerful history of survival. We are not victims; we are VICTORS! The resistance movement is alive within us because we are here.

For me, my ancestors survived long and uncertain marches in Africa. Mysterious and long captivity in Africa, the Middle Passage and forced labor here in the US. Many people didn’t survive, and their lineage died on the line, in captivity, or on the high seas. I am a survivor.

I am here to thrive and to prosper. I am here help others to do the same and to live their very best life.
We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us.Marianne Williamson

Indeed, we all enjoy such fabulous histories; it’s our time to shine. Let’s go!!!
